Chef Jose Nunez’s culinary journey has taken him across countries, continents, and kitchens of every size. After studying culinary arts in Peru, Jose continued his training in Poland and gained valuable experience working in Europe. His career later took him to sea, where he worked aboard cruise ships and learned to execute high-volume dining while maintaining the quality, consistency, and attention to detail of a much smaller kitchen.

Eventually, Jose brought that experience to Long Island, serving as an executive chef and leading the kitchens of several local restaurants and neighborhood hot spots. Along the way, he developed a cooking style rooted in classic technique, bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and the kind of food people simply enjoy coming back for.

Now, that journey comes to Middle Island with Side Door Social. At Side Door Social, Jose brings together years of international training and local restaurant experience to create a menu built around approachable food, bold flavors, and a little creativity. The idea is simple: great food, handcrafted cocktails, generous hospitality, and a comfortable neighborhood spot where people can meet, eat, drink, and stay awhile.

From Peru to Poland, from cruise ship dining rooms to Long Island kitchens, Chef Jose Nunez is bringing everything he has learned along the way to one new home — Side Door Social in Middle Island.
